New tool helps employers calculate budget differences due to state’s overtime rules

As employers and employees adjust to the changes in the state’s overtime rules, L&I has created a new tool to assist businesses.

For an employee to be considered exempt from overtime and other protections of the state Minimum Wage Act, they must be paid a salary, the salary must meet a minimum threshold, and they must perform certain duties.

Parking Lot Book Sale May 16

The Friends of the Longview Public Library are holding an outdoor book sale on Sunday, May 16. The sale will take place in the Library’s parking lot from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., weather permitting. Masks are required.

The Friends are selling gently used and like-new books at $2 for hardcover and trade paperbacks and $1 for pocket and children’s books. They will also have book bags and Longview history cards for sale. All proceeds support library programs and services.

Industrial Way & International Way Intersection Improvements Travel Lane Night Closure

Intersection Improvements is scheduled to start work at the Industrial Way and International Way Intersection on Monday, May 3, 2021. The work duration is planned for two weeks.

From 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, one westbound lane of Industrial Way is planned to be closed. Motorist traffic should expect delays during this time.

During non-working hours westbound lanes will be narrowed with temporary traffic control devices.

The City of Longview contracted with Halme Excavating, Inc. from Battle Ground to construct improvements for the Pacific Way trail pedestrian crossing at 38th Avenue and 42nd Avenue. The work includes installation of Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacon (RRFB), ADA ramps, driveway approaches, signs and striping.

Longview, WA, April 23, 2021, – The Cowlitz Economic Development Council (CEDC), in partnership with the Longview Downtowner's, are accepting applications for emergency grants for rent and utilities to Cowlitz County businesses and NGO’s with a business aspect, that are continuing to be negatively impacted by COVID-19.

Awards will be prioritized for women-owned, BIPOC-owned, and Veteran-owned businesses first, but are open to every business in Cowlitz County.
