The Longview Fire Department encourages citizens to be prepared, safe, and responsible with fireworks

With fireworks sales beginning on Tuesday, June 28, Longview Fire Marshal Jon Dunaway reminds residents to use fireworks safely and responsibly and to comply with all local and state laws.

According to the Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office, in 2021 there were 842 reported fireworks-related fires caused by fireworks - resulting in losses totaling over $4.5 million within Washington State. The National Fire Protection Association reports that fireworks start over 19,000 fires and send over 9,000 people to emergency departments each year in the United States.

L&I webinars are a chance to learn about key employment laws

A series of upcoming webinars from the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries provide workers and employers the opportunity to learn more about the state’s employment laws.

The sessions cover worker’s rights, white-collar overtime rules, isolated worker protections and the Equal Pay and Opportunities Act. There also are webinars in English and Spanish to explain the agricultural overtime law that took effect this year.

Led by Employment Standards Program staff, each webinar last about 45 minutes, and includes time for questions at the end.

THE ALL NEW 101.5 THE BLITZ ANNOUNCES ON AIR LINEUP

Solid Rock, The All New 101.5 The Blitz debuts a new lineup on Monday, May 16th.  Rock Radio Veterans Marconi and Eddie Barella will headline with “Mood Killers” mornings 6-10 and Porkchop will anchor afternoons from 3-8.

Marconi is best known for his massive ratings success at KUFO and KNRK in Portland, OR as well as 107.7 The End in Seattle.  Eddie Barella most recently hosted a show on Westwood One’s Rock 2.0 national format and worked at KBPI in Denver, CO.  Porkchop had huge success doing nights, then afternoons and mornings at KUFO.

Longview Parks & Recreation Awarded $100K for Youth Summer Camps

The City of Longview Parks & Recreation Department announced that they have received
two (2) $50,000 awards from the Summer Experiences & Enrichment for Kids (SEEK) Fund,
a program dedicated to supporting school-aged youth by promoting social connection,
encouraging physical activity, supporting families who are struggling with childcare needs,
and assisting those most impacted by the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic in Washington
state.

One lane closures on Oregon Way northbound and southbound, and intermittent intersection closures at Baltimore Street will occur July 23, 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
 One lane closures on Oregon Way from Baltimore Street to Beech Street from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
 The intersection of Baltimore Street and Oregon Way will be periodically blocked for up to 20 minutes.
 No on street parking will be permitted on Oregon Way southbound from Baltimore Street to Beech Street.
