Nichols Boulevard Pavement Rehabilitation Project
The City of Longview has contracted with Advanced Excavating Specialists to construct improvements along Nichols Boulevard
from Washington Way to Louisiana Street. Construction on the project began May 6, 2019.
Asphalt pavement replacement work is scheduled to last through July 27, 2019. Lane closures, intersection closures, and traffic
detours will be in effect for this work. Pedestrian traffic will be routed around work zones.
Paving work will continue in the northbound lane and northbound traffic will continue to be detoured to Kessler Blvd between
Washington Way and Ocean Beach Highway through July 24, 2019. The northbound lane is scheduled to re-open July 25, 2019.
Paving work for the southbound lane of Nichols Blvd will begin on July 25, 2019 and will last through July 26, 2019. Southbound
traffic will be detoured to 30th Ave between Ocean Beach Highway and Washington Way through July 26, 2019.
Closures at the Louisiana Street and Nichols Boulevard intersection are scheduled for July 22, July 25, and July 26, 2019. Vehicle
traffic will be detoured around the intersection for this work to 30th Avenue or to Kessler Boulevard.
The intersection at Washington Way and Nichols Boulevard will be closed on Saturday, July 27, 2019, for completion of paving work.
Vehicle traffic will be detoured around the intersection for this work. Northbound traffic will be detoured to Kessler Boulevard between
20th Avenue and Ocean Beach Highway. Southbound traffic will be detoured to 30th Avenue between Louisiana Street and Oregon Way. 19-77
Remaining work on the project will include re-striping of the roadway, and improvements to existing traffic and pedestrian signals.
This work is scheduled to last through the end of August.
All dates are subject to change based on construction progress and weather. In order to avoid delays, motorists are encouraged to use
Water System Flushing Scheduled Area #8
The City of Longview utility crews will begin flushing water mains west of SR 432 in the area of
Willow Grove, on Friday, August 16, 2019.
Work will begin at 6:30 a.m. and end by 4:30 p.m. Advisory signs will be posted in the area.
Flushing may stir up sediment that can enter residential plumbing. Residents should refrain from using
water while flushing is occurring.
After flushing, it is recommended that residents run water through an outside hose bib or in a bathtub, for a short
time prior to consuming water or washing clothes.

new genre in theatre known as theatrical acrobatics; which seamlessly integrates compelling storytelling and characters with world-class acrobatics and aerial.

Bonsai Basics at Longview Public Library
On August 10 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. the Longview Public Library will be hosting Heather Gawlick in the Library Auditorium for a discussion and demonstration on the basics of
bonsai. Heather has been a bonsai enthusiast for about 25 years and has practiced her art in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Vancouver, Canada; and even right here in Longview.
Along with a presentation and short demonstration she will explain different styles and shapes, what sort of plant stock beginners should try, and how to start your own at home.
This program is FREE and open to the public. Registration is not required.

Longview Public Library Featured Artist: Cheryl Hicks
The Longview Public Library and the Longview Library Foundation are excited to present the 2019 Featured Artist:
Cheryl Hicks. Cheryl is originally from Texas and relocated to Longview two years ago.
She has shown her artwork across Texas and in New York, and has an extensive collection on display in the historic
Monticello Hotel. Cheryl didn’t start making art until she was forty years old, but in the last
20 years she has created almost 1,000 pieces of artwork. Cheryl has an ongoing series titled, “I Just Don’t Read Like I Used To,”
in which she examines the ways Pop Culture and technology have impacted our lives, especially our reading habits.
From August 6 through August 31 the Koth Memorial Gallery at Longview Public Library will display some of Cheryl’s new
canvases from the “I Just Don’t Read Like I Used To” series. On August 12, 5:30
p.m. to 7:30 p.m., there will be a public reception in the Koth Memorial Gallery where you can meet Cheryl, our 2019 Featured Artist!
