Help Us Read 5,000 Books!

From January 1st to January 31st, Longview Public Library will participate in Beanstack’s Fourth Annual Winter Reading Challenge, “Books Like Us,” sponsored by Simon and Schuster. We challenge patrons of all ages to read at least 5 books during the month towards a community goal of 5,000 books and keep track of their reading on our Beanstack site at longviewlibrary.beanstack.org.

In this reading challenge, everyone has the opportunity to win! Finish the challenge to win your choice of a small stuffed bear or a beanie embroidered with the library logo. All finishers will also be entered to win one of six grand prizes – personalized book boxes.

We will be joining thousands of libraries and schools across the nation aiming to reach community reading goals. We have the opportunity to win a virtual author visit or collection of books from the “Books Like Us” collection. Post about your participating in winter reading on social media using the hashtags #WinterRead2021 and #BooksLikeUs. Together, we can all win.

More information about library services can be found on our website at longviewlibrary.org or by calling 360.442.5300.

Outdoor Gallery Creates Podcast Tour

The Longview Outdoor Gallery has created a podcast audio tour to showcase the nearly two dozen pieces of art sprinkled throughout Downtown Longview.

The podcast is available on six platforms including Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Each episode of the podcast corresponds with a specific sculpture and details the artist who built the piece and a bit about the piece itself. Because it’s in podcast form, citizens and visitors wishing to learn about the artwork aren’t required to walk any one way, like a standard audio tour. Rather, they can walk or drive to look at whichever sculpture they choose, whenever they want.

The Longview Outdoor Gallery believes this podcast tour will continue to enhance Longview’s Downtown through an interactive educational experience.

Spotify Link: https://open.spotify.com/show/3iiobPXmDSUGlOij74AiWm

The Longview Outdoor Gallery is a non-profit, 100% donor supported organization, with all proceeds going to buy sculptures to showcase the beauty of our community and to attract more visitors to the downtown area. Our mission is to provide a rotating exhibit of outdoor sculptures in Historic Downtown Longview and acquire new pieces for the city’s permanent art collection. We hope to have 23 permanent sculptures by 2023. Find out more at LongviewLOG.org.
