Kristina Swanson joins City of Longview

The City of Longview is pleased to announce that Kristina (Kris) Swanson will be joining the executive team as Director of Administrative Services, beginning March 1, 2020. Kris brings over 28 years of public service experience and has a strong track record of collaborative leadership, innovation and leading initiatives that improve government services.

In 1991, Kris began her career in public service managing the elections division in the Cowlitz County Auditor’s Office. She was then elected to five terms as County Auditor, serving from 1999-2017. As County Auditor, Kris was tasked with overseeing elections, document recording, marriage and vehicle licensing, and financial accounting services. In 2013, she was awarded “Auditor of the Year” by Secretary of State, Kim Wyman and received the President’s Award for Outstanding Service from the Washington State Association of County Auditors in 2015.

In November 2017, Kris joined the executive team at the Office of the Washington State Auditor in Olympia to serve as the Director of Operations, leading the state agency’s administrative functions. Kris also served as the Director of the Center for Government Innovation, a non-audit division of the State Auditor’s Office, dedicated to assisting local governments in improving their service delivery and to be more cost effective and efficient governments.

“I am extremely pleased to announce Kris Swanson as the City of Longview’s Administrative Services Director”, says City Manager Kurt Sacha. “As Administrative Services Director, Kris will assume a dual role and oversee the Finance and Information Technology Departments. Given her longstanding career in public service as the Cowlitz County Auditor and as Director of Operations for the Washington State Auditor’s Office, Kris brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to local government. She has proven herself as a highly praised leader in the community and I look forward to working with Kris in her new role.”

Kris and her husband, Eric, live in Castle Rock with their two sons, Camden and Zachary. She enjoys running and spends most of her free time watching her sons play sports and her husband coach high school basketball.
