Gary Huhta appointed General Manager of Cowlitz PUD
Longview, WA – Cowlitz PUD’s Board of Commissioners approved the hiring of its new general manager at Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting. Longtime Director of Power Management, Gary Huhta, has been named to the position of General Manager. He will begin his new role effective May 25, 2019. Mr. Huhta has been with Cowlitz PUD for over 26 years, beginning his career as an Assistant Power Resource Engineer. Gary played an integral role in the reconstruction of the Swift No. 2 Hydroelectric Project after its catastrophic failure in 2002.
In his role as General Manager, Mr. Huhta will be responsible for providing leadership and direction for all of Cowlitz PUD operations. President of the Board of Commissioners, David Quinn expressed his confidence in Mr. Huhta, “I’m in a unique position having had the opportunity to work with Gary. Gary’s experience, deep knowledge of the District operations and overall high level of leadership will make for an excellent General Manager.”
Born and raised in Longview, WA., Gary attended Mark Morris High School, Lower Columbia College and graduated from Portland State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Gary and his wife, Gina, reside in Longview and have seven children.
