The Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Council of Governments is kicking off its five-year Comprehensive Economic Development Strategies Report, referred to as the CEDS, this year. As part of meeting the federal requirements, they are to receive feedback from the business community in several different portions of the plan. They have put together a virtual SWOT analysis to identify the priorities of the region that will assist with the economic vitality.
The information obtained through this virtual SWOT will provide us a starting point to develop the goals and objectives for the CEDS as well as assist in identifying needs for funding from the federal government. The CEDS is a requirement from the US Economic Development Administration and used by several federal agencies when identifying needs and for meeting some requirements for funding. In addition, two of the three counties use the CEDS to assist in the .09 Rural Development funding dispersed by the Board of County Commissioners
