The City of Longview Parks Division to Remove Log Arches at Lake Sacajawea Next Week

The City of Longview Parks Division will be removing the log arches at Lake Sacajawea next
week. After years of being outside in Pacific Northwest weather and installed directly into the
ground without a moisture barrier, the wood structure has begun to decay and is beyond repair.
After inspection of the arches, removal is required.

The Log Arches were donated and installed in 1976 by the 23 Club at west end of Hemlock
Street. The arches feature cross-timbers 20 feet long and rest on support logs 14 feet tall. The
logs are 2 feet in diameter. The structure commemorated the 50th Anniversary celebration of
Longview and the intent was to duplicate the original 1924 arches used in the Pageant of
Progress at intersection of Washington Way and Vandercook Way.
