Free Bereavement Support Group for Survivors of Suicide Loss
Starting January 23, 2019, at Community Home Health & Hospice in Longview
LONGVIEW, Wash., December 26, 2018 – Community Home Health & Hospice is offering an eight-week, free grief support group for survivors of suicide loss at the James Avery Center for Grief Support, 1000 – 12th Ave., Longview, WA. The group meets Wednesdays from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm, from January 23, 2019 – March 13, 2019. Facilitated by Mary Fleming, MSW, and Rick Sievers, Hospice Volunteer.
Ring in the Noon Year!
The Longview Public Library invites children ages six and younger, along with their grownups
and siblings, to celebrate a countdown to noon on New Year’s Eve!
Toddlers and preschoolers don’t need to worry about missing out at midnight, because at this
small party just for them we’ll have crafts, dancing, and a balloon drop! The Happy Noon Year
party begins at 11:30 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, December 31. Registration is not

The City of Kelso, in celebration of Christmas Eve, will be closing City Hall, the Library, and Public Works Operations at 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 24th. The City is also closed all day on Christmas but will reopen at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 26th.

Paid Family and Medical Leave Starts January 2019
Nearly all Washington employers will be required to:
- Collect premiums from employee paychecks and remit them to the Employment Security Department. (Withhold from first paycheck of 2019)
- Report employee wages, hours, and more to ESD (New report, first report in April 2019)
- Provide notice of this program to employees. (Provided by ESD before January 2020)

Determination of severe weather event concluded
City Manager Kurt Sacha has determined that effective Wednesday, December 12 the severe
weather event designated on December 2 will conclude. The weather forecast now indicates
that low temperatures in Longview will be consistently above freezing (32 degrees).
Local Community Leader Joins Port of Longview Commission
Alan Erickson is to fulfill remainder of vacated seat
Today, newly appointed Commissioner Allan Erickson officially joined the Port of Longview Board of Commissioners. Cowlitz County District Court Judge John Hayes presided over the swearing in of Erickson, who represents the Commission’s 3rd District.
