Teen Summer Events at the Library

Teen Summer Reading at the Longview Library begins Friday, June 23. Young people going into middle or high school in the fall are invited to join in the fun and help “Build a Better World,” our theme for 2017. Sign up online (www.longviewlibrary.org) or in the library to begin recording your reading and earning prizes.

Special summer events just for middle and high schoolers will be held Tuesdays evenings in July.

July 11, 6:00 p.m. – Cardboard Cosplay, learn to make costumes out of cardboard.

July 18, 6:00 p.m. – Clothing Upcycle, transform old clothes into something new.

July 27, 6:00 p.m. – Blanket Fort Party, build a big fort with blankets and furniture, then crawl inside for pizza and games.

Year-round clubs, the Teen Book Club at the Highlands Community Center and Rainbow Community, continue through the summer. More information is available on our website: www.longviewlibrary.org/teens-events.php.

Teens are also invited to our all-ages Harry Potter Party on Tuesday, June 27, and our Summer Reading Picnic on Wednesday, August 2, both also at 6:00 p.m

Reading for pleasure and attending cultural events helps keep minds active and prevents the “summer slide,” a process where youth lose knowledge and skills they worked so hard to gain during the school year. Build a Better World by staying active in your mind and your community all summer long!
